McDonald’s Hong Kong has long faced a deep-seated bias—that a career here is a dead-end job reserved for those who could not or had given up on pursuing further education. This severely impacts McDonald’s recruitment efforts. We decided to add value to our in-house training programme for employers. We opened the ‘Professional Diploma in Management Development (QF level 5)’ program for all employees, transforming it to appeal to those looking for career development opportunities. We worked with the government to give our program the accreditation the equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. This helped amplify the achievement of our employees to the public and elevated the perception of a job at McDonald’s to be onethat can lead to a promising career.
